More than 20 species of ducks call Australia home, and six of these are featured in this photo gallery.  Ducks are frequent visitors to urban parklands that have the aquatic environments that they require, and many, such as Pacific Black Ducks, Anas superciliosa, are among the most familiar of Australian birds that people who feed them in a city park know simply as ‘the ducks’.

This photo gallery includes images of Pacific Black Ducks in an urban environment, paddling across the water of a lake with a gaggle of obedient ducklings in tow, and in flight.

Here you’ll also be introduced to Wood Ducks, Chenonetta jubata, with photos showing proud parents with their fluffy ducklings, and to the Australian Shelduck, Tadorna tadornoides, that was quenching its thirst at a waterhole in outback Australia.

Flocks of colourful Plumed Whistling Ducks, Dendrocygna eytoni, can also be seen in this gallery, with images also showing these glamorous birds wading in and drifting on the blue water of a lake in urban parklands.

With photos of the Hardhead / White-eyed Duck, Aythya australis, and the Grey Teal, Anas gracilis, this gallery offers a glimpse of some of the most beautiful waterbirds that can be seen down under.
