stinkhorn fungus
Phallus multicolour IMG 4011 - This fungus, with its lace skirt, might look attractive but it's not a species that's welcome in any garden. Its common name is 'stinkhorn' - and there's a very good reason for that apt description. It omits a pungent smell that attracts flies that play a vital role in the lifecycle of this species of fungus, for they spread its spores and thus allow it to colonise new areas.
