Australian dingo - native dog
Dingo IMG 5264 - This beautiful animal is an Australian native dog. The dingo's prey includes small native mammals and birds, but it is a powerful predator that often kills sheep, particularly those that are young or weak. That has made it the enemy of graziers across the country who lay poisoned baits to kill these carnivores. Dingoes have occasionally attacked humans, sometimes with fatal consequences, but animals that have shown such aggression are usually those that live close to national parks and other areas frequented by people who feed wild dingoes. This stupid behaviour leads to the animals eventually losing their fear of humans. This female dingo was photographed, in the wild, in the West MacDonnell Ranges, which are easily accessible from the central Australian town of Alice Springs. Although she came close to the photographer's campsite in a remote and isolated corner of the outback, she showed no sign of aggression, and with no food on offer, she eventually wandered back across the arid landscape from where she had come.
