Eastern water dragon lizard in wetlands

Eastern water dragon IMG 9860 - This Australian reptile may appear ugly to some people, but beauty is definitely all in the eye of the beholder. Often spotted on the banks of rivers or streams, the eastern water dragon is an efficient swimmer and emerges from its aquatic environment like a miniature dinosaur leaving some primeval swamp. Despite its appearance, this lizard is harmless to humans and if approached it is more likely to flee than to attack.  Photographed in its natural habitat in wetlands in the Queensland city of Bundaberg.
